Royal Descent

This blog's focus is on medieval and peerage genealogy. It chronicles my madcap research into the Descendants of Edward I of England, with an emphasis on 1300-1500. Follow me as I library dive into the published chancery rolls, visitation pedigrees, and peerage works of the 19th century, and try to mold it in with the explosion in historical research into medieval England that's occurred in the last fifty years.

About Me

My photo
Brad Verity
I love the area where history and genealogy meet. Both have been passions of mine since my youth. When I merged them with my passion for anything medieval - King Arthur and his Knights, the Wars of the Roses - I found my true calling. My website, Royal Descent, focuses on Edward I and the various families which descend from him. And my blog connected with it chronicles my experiences researching in English history. I hope people will enjoy it for the research itself, but also for my perspective on it. I'm an American from a warm, Jewish family, with no descent at all from royalty or peerage, no matter how far back. I'm an individual who has not been schooled formally as an historian, or trained and accredited by any professional genealogy association. I'm a guy who loves England as much for its New Wave music, great nightclubs, and awesome filmmaking, as its castles, abbeys, libraries, and gardens. "So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past." - F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
