As these Scottish lines are well-covered in peerage works and other online databases, I won't lay out all of the remaining descents from James I and James II of Scotland, and from Edward III of England. If anyone has any questions on the Scottish lines back to those earlier monarchs, just let me know.
This post wraps up the ancestry of Brigadier Edward 'Ted' Williams. He married twice. It was his second wife, Evelyn Agnes Clay, who was the mother of his four children, including younger son Edward Bruce Williams, husband of Catherine Jane Howard. My next post will explore the interesting ancestry of Evelyn Clay.
Cheers, -----Brad
There is a James II descent for Thomas Bruce of Arnot Tower (1777-1852) who appears in A10 above. The bare-bones details are as follows:
ReplyDelete1. James II, King of Scotland, m. Marie van Egmond
2. Mary, Princess of Scotland; m. (2) (his 2nd) James Hamilton, 1st Lord Hamilton
3. James Hamilton, 1st Earl of Arran; (unm.) ? Mary (or Margaret) Boyd?
4. John Hamilton, Archbishop of St. Andrews; (unm.) Grizell Semple
5. Jean [or Margaret] Hamilton; m. Robert Bruce of Blairhall
6. Robert Bruce of Blairhall; m. Katherine [or Jean] Preston of Valleyfield
7. Sir William Bruce, 1st Baronet, of Kinross and Balcaskie; m. (1) Mary Halket of Pitfirrane
8. Anne Bruce of Kinross; m.(1) Sir Thomas Hope, 4th Baronet, of Craghall
9. Sir John Hope [later Bruce-Hope], 7th Baronet, of Craighall; m. (2) Marianne Denune
10. Anna Bruce-Hope; m. Thomas Williamson [later] Bruce
11. Thomas Bruce of Arnot; m. (2) Clementina Dundas
Through generation 8 this is in Leo's Genealogics database. James II is of course an Edward III descendant through his mother Joan Beaufort. But there are other Edward III descents for Anne Bruce of Kinross and her husband Sir Thomas Hope, 4th Baronet. They may be in Leo's database - I haven't checked.
Many thanks for this James II line, John. I don't have it in my database at all, starting from Generation 4 the Archbishop of St Andrews. I'll download his ODNB bio, and start on the line soon!
